2.Where’s Pongo? : Reading Skills

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ«In this fun reading skills exercise, the teacher explains that six dogs are lost in the park, and the students must help their owners find them. To do this, the students must read the owners’ descriptions of their dogs and match each description to a picture of the missing dog.

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ« To begin, the teacher puts up a picture of the six lost dogs on the board (aren’t they cute!).

In this example, I used AI to generate dogs that look slightly similar to one another, so students have to read carefully to identify each dog. Challenging but not difficult for the beginner students. Feel free to use this image and copy and paste the descriptions in your own class.

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ« The teacher explains to the students that six owners have lost their dogs in the park, and they have to help each owner find their dog.

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ« The teacher hands out a sheet with descriptions of each dog to the students. The students have to look at the picture and read each dog’s description. Then they write the letters A, B, C, D, E, and F on the blank given at the end of each description.

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ« Once the students have read through each description and matched it with a dog, the teacher holds a feedback session asking the question;

Who is dog A?

The students call out the dog’s name.

Why?

The students read out the key information that matches the dog’s description.

Please help find my dog!

πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ«After the exercise is completed, the teacher can have a class discussion with the students, asking them which dog they would like to have and why.
